To be used mainly in town, a peppy and responsive engine is the need of the day, The three-cylinder, 12-valve engine is the same as found in the Wagon R’s engine minus one cylinder. Throttle response is quite good. In traffic, the Alto is actually quite adept at keeping pace.
It struggles with five people on board, especially on slopes. Power delivery is jerky, when getting on and off the throttle at low speeds and this can be quite irritating.

The Alto is the king of the fuel sipping game. Look no further if this is what matters most. The smallest engine and a light kerb weight make it a Scrooge when it comes to saving fuel. The Alto returned 13.5 kpl in the city and 18.8 kpl on the highway.
