The diesel Audi A3 sedan is a fantastic all-rounder and could just be the perfect step-on point to the luxury car ladder.

    Verdict

The diesel Audi A3 offers a fantastic blend of luxury, fun and practicality. Sure, it isn’t as refined and doesn’t quite match up to the thrills of the 177bhp petrol A3 but on a day to day basis, the diesel’s performance is more than adequate. Plus, it will be significantly cheaper at the pump too. What you get is a reasonably spacious compact luxury car with interiors that feel genuinely premium, and a good deal of equipment as well. But most importantly, the sedan body style gives it a lot more street-cred than its hatchback rivals, amongst Indian customers.

Now the best bit. Audi cleverly priced the base Attraction trim A3 diesel at a very competitive Rs 22.95 lakh, making it the cheapest entry-level luxury diesel car on sale. However, the Technology trim, with all the bells and whistles, is priced at Rs 32.66 lakh, making it more expensive than the competition. With a low entry price, Audi shouldn’t have too much trouble attracting footfalls in the showrooms. We won’t be surprised if the A3 becomes the best-selling entry luxury car in India.
