Land Rover Freelander 2

The Freelander is one of the best-riding SUVs we’ve driven. The combination of
its pliant tall springs and stiff chassis delivers a ride quality that is so absorbent and silent that you just drive over everything. Ruts, potholes, and even speedbreakers at times are taken in its stride. You need to slow down only on horrifically damaged roads. Also impressive are the strong brakes that allow you the luxury of bleeding speed painlessly if required.
The Freelander is not a great drivers car over a winding road. The steering offers very little feedback when you turn into a corner. The car rolls before attaining a fixed attitude and the steering feels too quick at speed. But it’s not a bad handler. Roll is contained after a point, you can get used to the quick steering and the Freelander is quite willing to change direction.
Of course, it’s off-road where this car shows its mettle. However, in fairness, no soft-roader can stay with the LR as soon as the terrain gets challenging.
