    Volvo S90 India-bound next year

Volvo will soon replace its flagship S80 sedan with the all new S90. More importantly, the S90 is expected to hit Indian shores next year.

The S90, based on Volvo’s Scalable Architecture Platform for its bigger cars, is expected to be bigger in size and consequently more spacious than the S80. On the design front, the S90 is hugely inspired from Volvo’s 2013 Concept coupe. It gets a signature rectangular grille and headlamps with the ‘Thor’s Hammer’ DLRs, as already seen on the new XC90. The four-door coupe gets a sloping roof-line and familiar C-shaped tail-lamps, which have become a mainstay in Volvo’s design-language.

Recently revealed images of the S90 test mules also suggest that the S90’s interior borrows heavily from that of the Volvo XC90, with the dashboard getting a large touchscreen infotainment interface, flanked by longer, sleeker air vents.

The S90 will derive power from Volvo’s Drive-E range of two-litre, twin-turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engines, which too, feature in the new XC90.

With the S90, Volvo will homogenize the nomenclature scheme for its vehicles; the ‘90 series’ for its large offerings, the ‘60 series’ indicating its mid-sized cars and the ‘40 series’ for its smaller products.
