    Volkswagen India reaches export milestone

Volkswagen India's 50,000th export model, a left-hand drive Vento sedan for the Mexican market, has rolled off the production line from its Chakan plant near Pune. This milestone marks a major achievement for the carmaker as it started its export operations here merely two and a half years ago with South Africa as the first market and today, that portfolio has grown to 32 markets.

Mahesh Kodumudi, president and managing director, VW India, said, “The rising demand from Mexico mirrors the positive customer feedback of the Vento. Not only does this success help us in tackling the volatilities in the domestic market, but it also strengthens our export leg of the business in a sustainable way. With the success of our highest quality cars in this key market, we can further increase our scope of export to more countries in the near future.”

Besides the Vento, VW also exports the Polo hatchback to various markets worldwide. And other than the completely built up (CBU) units, the carmaker also ships parts and components of the Polo and Vento to Malaysia. These are assembled there for local markets.
