    Tucson-based Genesis GV70 to get 380hp V6 engine

New Genesis GV70 SUV details have been released about two months after the Audi Q5 rival from Hyundai’s luxury arm was revealed. The luxury car brand has revealed powertrain details and info about a Sport Package upgrade.

    • Genesis GV70 to get 210hp diesel, 304hp petrol and 380hp petrol engine options
    • Launch control and all-wheel drive system available on higher versions
    • Sport Package adds mechanical and cosmetic changes

    Genesis GV70 engine options

    Engine options for the GV70 SUV mirror the recently-revised G70 sedan, and include a 304hp 2.5-litre turbo-petrol, a 380hp 3.5-litre turbocharged V6 and a 210hp 2.2-litre diesel. The two lower-capacity units will be offered in rear- and four-wheel-drive formats, while the 3.5-litre range-topper will be four-wheel-drive only.

The GV70 also offers a launch control function, which sees the top-spec petrol model accelerate from 0-100kph in a claimed 5.1 seconds - matching the Porsche Macan S. Additionally, four-wheel-drive cars gain a "Multi Terrain Control' system, which brings bespoke driving modes for snowy, sandy and muddy conditions.

Each powertrain can be paired with a Sport Package upgrade, which brings an electronic limited-slip differential for improved handling, alongside exclusive sports wheel designs, larger exhaust outlet, colour-coded rear diffuser and carbon fibre-style interior trim elements.

    Genesis GV70 India launch details

While the GV70 is Genesis’ fifth global model – after the G70, G80 and G90 sedans, and the larger GV80 SUV – parent company Hyundai is evaluating introducing the luxury brand to India with this SUV. Hyundai India was considering bringing the GV70 via the CKD route to avoid hefty import taxes on CBU imports.

Considering it will go on sale in other right hand drive markets – like the UK – and shares key components with the India-bound next-gen Tucson, there is still potential for an India launch of the Genesis GV70 SUV. If it arrives, it’ll go up against the Porsche Macan, Audi Q5, Mercedes-Benz GLC and BMW X3.
