SIAM’s (Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers) Automotive Design Challenge 2014 is currently underway. The styling and design group has finalised three make-believe themes for the contest this year. Interested candidates are required to pick any one theme; create and submit their designs and clay models along with the presentations.
The first of three themes is 'what if Hyundai purchased a majority in Ferrari, and is now looking to build a special automobile as homage to the legendary Enzo Ferrari'. This idea invites potential designers to create a unique mix of Hyundai and Ferrari’s design languages. The second theme invites candidates to design what a BMW pick-up truck would look like, and the third theme assumes 'if World War II had not ensued, and countries and companies had continued to evolve unaffected, what would have been Auto Union’s development course and how would it look like today'.
Participants are expected to submit their initial soft copies by October 11. The jury will then shortlist 10 candidates by October 18 for the next scale-model stage. The result for this stage will be declared by October 22, after which the chosen candidates will have to make their final submissions by February 7 next year.
The design challenge intends to evaluate the participants’ understanding of the selected theme, depth of understanding the vehicle layouts, flow of the design lineage, quality of execution and attention to detail.
