New Hyundai Creta E+ 1.6D priced from Rs 10.88 lakh

We had recently reported about the availability of the 1.6-litre diesel engine option of the Hyundai Creta in the entry-level guise, and now we also have its prices. The 1.6-litre diesel E+ and EX variants have been priced at Rs 10.88 lakh and Rs 11.92 lakh, respectively, which translates into a premium of around Rs 90,000 over the corresponding variants equipped with the smaller 1.4-litre oil burner. Due to the Korean automaker’s latest variant rejig, starting prices for the 1.6-litre diesel have dropped by about Rs 2.74 lakh, considering that the larger capacity motor was earlier available only in the higher SX trim onwards.

As such, there have been no alterations in the equipment levels of the variants. The E+ trim continues to sport features like halogen headlamps, remote locking, manual air conditioning, electrically adjustable wing mirrors, front armrest, tilt-adjustable steering and power windows. The EX variant adds LED DRLs, a rear armrest, adjustable rear headrests, a rear parking camera and a 5.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with steering-mounted controls to the mix.

However, the lower price tag also means that the new offerings miss out on goodies from the SX trim like 17-inch alloy wheels, projector headlamps, sunroof, cruise control, keyless entry/go, auto climate control and a 7.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. On the safety front, dual airbags, ABS, rear parking sensors, seatbelt reminder and speed alert system remain standard across the range.

Coming to the mechanicals, the 1.6-litre diesel engine churns out 128hp and 260Nm of torque, which is considerably higher than the 90hp and 220Nm of torque generated by the smaller 1.4-litre motor. Though the larger capacity diesel is available with the choice of an automatic transmission in higher trims, the E+ and EX are only equipped with a 6-speed manual gearbox. There is also a 123hp, 1.6-litre petrol offering available in the Creta line-up.

As a result of the current economic slowdown and increased competition in the midsize SUV segment, the Creta’s sales have taken a hit in the recent months. The current-gen Hyundai SUV will soldier on till the all-new model arrives in our market next year.
