When it comes to making car commercials, Mahindra just knows what the masses like to see. Be it the James Bond-inspired cut for the Scorpio or the Bollywood-style chase sequence for the TUV300 (replete with driving through walls and tripping up the bad guys), the company has mastered the art of making enticing TV commercials. However, for its upcoming compact SUV, the XUV300, Mahindra has done things a bit differently.

There’s no shortage of drama, but this time, instead of having a chase sequence involving helicopters, the focus is on highlighting what the XUV300 is capable of on the road. And the man behind the wheel is none other than Asia Pacific rally champion, Gaurav Gill.

In a new promotional video, Gill is seen hustling the XUV300 around a specially designed course on an airfield, executing nifty handbrake turns and going sideways in the compact SUV. In Gill’s experienced hands, the XUV300 even wanders off the track to hit some dirt roads. All in, it’s a pretty good way to spend 2 minutes, 15 seconds of your day.

The XUV300 is scheduled to launch on February 14. Stay tuned for our review of Mahindra’s exciting new compact SUV.
