Great Wall Motor Company, China’s eighth largest carmaker wants to open a plant in India. A company delegation was recently in India meet government, SIAM and potential suppliers, say media reports. If it succeeds, it would be the first Chinese carmaker to operate in the country without a partner.

According to reports, the company is targeting 2016 to start manufacturing in India. The company has two production bases at Baoding and Tianjing in China. Its products include the Haval SUV, the Great Wall passenger car and the Wingle pick-up. GWMC sells sport-utility vehicles and pick-up trucks in emerging markets such as Russia and South Africa. It has assembly lines overseas and exports its vehicles to over 100 countries.
