Google teams up with manufacturers to offer Android on cars

Until now, we've only seen cars with iPhone connectivity. Finally, there's reason to cheer for car owners that own Android OS phones - Google has confirmed at CES 2014 (Consumer Electronics Show), Las Vegas, that it, along with five other companies, will bring Android OS connectivity to cars very soon.

United under the Open Automotive Alliance (OAA), the six companies, which include Audi, GM, Honda, Hyundai and chip-maker NVIDIA will join forces to bring the Android platform to cars starting this year. Carmakers have the chance to try to keep pace with the constantly evolving mobile phone industry. The open development platform will allow carmakers and developers to add their own touch to in-car tech, and the OAA has stated that other carmakers are welcome to join as well.

“The expansion of the Android platform into automotive will allow our industry partners to more easily integrate mobile technology into cars and offer drivers a familiar, seamless experience so they can focus on the road,” said Sundar Pichai, senior vice president of Android, Chrome and Apps at Google.
