    20,000th BMW rolls off the line

    Mr. Juergen Eder, Managing Director, BMW Plant Chennai with the 20,000th car (BMW X3) rolling out from the assembly line at BMW Plant Chennai.

    BMW India rolled out its 20,000th made-in-India car from its Chennai plant.

    The BMW Plant in Chennai commenced operations on 29th March 2007, it produces the BMW 3- and 5-series saloons, the X1 and the X3 SUV’s. The BMW Group has invested Rs 1.1 billion in the project and it plans to increase its investment in India to Rs 1.8 billion by the end of 2012.

    The German carmaker currently sells the 3-series, 5-series and 7-series luxury saloons in India, SUVs like the X1, X3, X5 and X6 and luxury sport and touring cars like the Z4 and the 6-series. Also on sale are BMW M division’s hi-performance cars such as the M3. It has recently forayed into the pre-owned car business in India and will also launch its MINI brand in the Indian market early next year.
