Volvo launched the new XC90 SUV in India last year with the SUV only available with a single diesel engine. Now, Volvo is set to expand the line-up with the much-anticipated XC90 T8 Twin Engine plug-in hybrid.

The XC90 Twin Engine is powered by a 320hp 2.0-litre, turbocharged and supercharged four-cylinder petrol engine. The engine powers the front wheels that combines with an 87hp electric motor driving the rear wheels to bring a total output to 407hp. There is also a 25hp starter motor/generator between the petrol engine and gearbox which assists from time to time to help smoothen the transition between the different drive methods and fill any torque gaps. Volvo also claims an all-electric range of 40km for its petrol-hybrid SUV.

The XC90 T8 will be available in the new range-topping Excellence trim – the diesel variants are only available in Momentum and Inscription trims. The hybrid can be expected to offer more equipment than the current diesel variants on sale.

As with all Volvo models, the new XC90 T8 hybrid will be imported as a CBU. The company is also likely to add a sportier-looking R-Design variant to the XC90 line-up in India in the future.
