Tata is readying a compact SUV based on the Nexon concept that made its debut at Auto Expo 2014. Known internally as the ‘Osprey’, the new compact SUV is based on the Vista’s X1 platform and is expected to borrow styling details like the prominent front grille and swept-back headlamps from Land Rover models such as the Range Rover Evoque.

Now, interior photos of a test mule have surfaced on the web. As per the photos, the Osprey gets a cab forward design. The two-piece dashboard design looks unlike other Tata models but shows bits like the steering, control stalk and instrument cluster that seem to be borrowed from other Tata models such as the Zest and Bolt. The car gets horizontal-profiled air-con vents with the rotary controls located low down on the centre console. The image also shows the car with what could possibly be an AMT gearbox.

The compact SUV will also introduce Tata’s new in-house developed 1.5-litre diesel engine paired to a six-speed manual gearbox and a turbocharged version of the all-new 1.2-litre three-cylinder Revotron unit from the all-new Zica.

The Osprey is set to be showcased at the upcoming Auto Expo alongside Tata's upcoming models – the Hexa, Zica and the Bolt Sport. Market launch for the car is only likely towards the end of 2016.
