We’ve got our hands on the latest pictures of SsangYong’s Korando SUV in India, sent by alert reader Milind More.

The Korando is the Mahindra-owned SsangYong’s first SUV built on a monocoque platform. It is powered by a 173bhp 2 -litre turbo-diesel engine mated to either a six-speed manual or automatic gearbox. It is about 4.4 meteres long, which makes it strictly a five-seater; luggage space is only 486 litres.

However, what goes in the Korando’s favour is its sporting stance and a design that bears strong SUV cues. The muscular flanks, flared wheel arches that enclose 225/60 R17 tyres and a high beltline deliver a dose of aggression but the small headlights, undersized grille and a chin that ducks under the body, give the nose a tame look.

SsangYong will launch the Korando in India later this year. Mahindra will position the Korando slightly above the XUV500, which means a base price of Rs 15 lakh can be expected.
