Renault India has received more than 25,000 bookings for its Kwid hatchback since its launch announcement more than a fortnight ago, according to the carmaker. Renault launched the Kwid on September 24 at a starting price of Rs 2.57 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the base variant going right up to Rs 3.53 lakh for the top-spec version. The car managed to grab quite a bit of interest thanks to its chunky, crossover-like stance.

The Renault Kwid’s delivery will begin next week and the hatchback will be available at dealerships across the country. Renault India has said that India’s tier II and tier III cities have also shown tremendous response towards the hatchback reaching out to dealerships with inquiries and booking requests.

Moreover, the carmaker is looking at expanding its presence across the country and announced plans to open 205 sales outlets by December. “The Renault Kwid has created a huge excitement since its launch and we are thrilled with the response it has received just at the on-set of the festive season…We are witnessing remarkable footfalls in dealerships across all regions since the launch of Renault Kwid. The innovative Virtual Showroom and the Renault Kwid app have received a tremendous response across India,” according to Sumit Sawhney, Country CEO and Managing Director, Renault India Operations.

Renault is offering a 50,000km/2-year maintenance policy that can be extended up to 80,000km/4 years. Furthermore, the carmaker will also offer complementary road side assistance for two years.

While this initial upbeat response for the Kwid might be a reason to cheer for Renault India, it might be too early to celebrate. With sales of its successful Duster SUV slowing down in the past few months, the carmaker will be banking on the Kwid to revive volumes in the country. It will be interesting to see if the Kwid, which squarely rivals the Maruti Alto and the Hyundai Eon, continues to be well-received in the coming months.
