Renault showcased a 1.0-litre engine-equipped Kwid at Auto Expo 2016 in Delhi alongside two concepts, the Kwid Racer and Kwid Climber. While the Climber and Racer were indigenously designed and built show cars, the Kwid 1.0 is slated to launch in the latter half of the year.

A test mule has been spotted on our roads, wearing a badge on the boot reading 'SCe', which is expected to be the designation of the new 1.0-litre engine. At the Auto Expo, the Kwid 1.0 was shown in both manual and automatic guises with the automatic variant featuring an AMT gearbox developed in-house. The lack of badging on the test mule could possibly mean that it was a manual model.

A second Kwid was also testing alongside the Kwid 1.0, this test mule was shod with alloy wheels though it was uncertain as to what engine was under the hood. This test mule could hint at a better equipped top variant as it wore the RXT badge.

The Kwid 1.0 will rival the likes of the Alto K10 and the Hyundai Eon with the 1.0-litre unit, and will go on sale alongside the current Kwid. The car is also expected to be the only model offering the AMT gearbox in the Kwid line-up.
