The Porsche Macan has just been crash tested by the Euro NCAP, which is one of the most stringent NCAPs, and the SUV scored well across all the four categories of the tests. It received a five star rating after scoring 88 percent for adult and 87 percent for child occupant protection. This was the first time that a Porsche has been crash tested by the program.

A total of seven cars scored five stars, four scored four stars, and the Dacia Logan was the only one to score three stars for the tests. Apart from the Macan, the Land Rover Discovery Sport, Lexus NX and Kia Sorento scored five starts. The 2015 Ford Mondeo, 2015 Volkswagen Passat and Subaru Outback also scored five stars. The Dacia Logan was criticized for various things where it didn’t perform too well in the tests. It scored 87 percent in the adult protection category.

The Macan was tested with its Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) switched off, which is a safety system installed on cars. It monitors the proximity of other cars in front, determines if a crash is imminent, and applies brakes automatically to avoid collision. This way an uninhibited frontal crash was imitated, testing the actual structural integrity of the car as well.

The scores in the four categories were 88 percent for adult occupant protection, 87 percent for child occupant protection, 60 percent for pedestrian protection and 66 percent for safety assist.
