A number of brands had a significant presence at the recently concluded Moscow motor show 2014.

It was the European debut for Land Rover's new Range Rover Sport SVR. The 542bhp model made its world debut at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in California earlier this month, and is powered by a 5.0-litre supercharged V8 engine. It has a top speed of 260kph.

Chevrolet's Niva concept was also on display, showcasing how the next-generation SUV will look when it goes on sale in the international markets, in 2016.

BMW used the Moscow show to reveal its new X5 Security Plus, an armoured version of the firm's large SUV. The special X5 offers protection up to VR6 standard – which means it can withstand gunfire from automatic rifles like the AK47. The enhanced model is based on the xDrive50i, so is powered by a 449bhp 4.4-litre V8 engine.

The show was also the Russian debut for Nissan's GT-R Nismo. The Nismo can reach 100kph from a standing start in just 2.6 seconds, and is powered by a modified version of the standard GT-R's 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine, which develops 591bhp.
