Mitsubishi has released a teaser image of a hybrid SUV concept, the Grand Tourer, prior to its debut at the Paris motor show later this year.

The teaser image shows the car with a sloping roofline, a Range Rover Evoque-esque styling and a five-door layout. Described by Mitsubishi as the "latest expression" of its design journey, the concept sports a design that appears to be inspired by that of the XR-PHEV II concept – a hybrid SUV that was first showcased at the 2015 Geneva motor show.

The XR-PHEV II concept was developed to sit below the Outlander PHEV in the carmaker's range. Meanwhile, the Grand Tourer concept, however, could likely be positioned between the Outlander and the ASX.

The XR-PHEV II concept was powered by a 12kWh battery and internal combustion engine which produces 162.21hp and emits just 40g/km of CO2 emissions. However, Mitsubishi has revealed no details about the powertrain used in the upcoming concept.

Additionally, the carmaker has said that the concept will offer effortless travel both on and off the beaten track, hinting at the possibility of a four-wheel-drive platform for the hybrid SUV.
