Mercedes has updated the G-class to allow the engines to meet the new Euro 6 emission norms. The updated G-class gets minor styling changes to the base models along with the introduction of a new engine while the AMG variants get added power.

The biggest change in the model line-up is for the G500. The updated G 500 gets the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 first seen in the AMG-GT generating 416bhp and 62.2kgm of torque in place of the older 5.5-litre V8 that generated around 382bhp. Other changes to the G500 include restyled bumpers and AMG flared wheel arches as standard.

The G 63 AMG now gets more power with the 5.5-litre twin-turbo V8 now pumping out 563bhp and 61.18kgm of torque, about 27bhp and 6kgm more than the pre-updated model. The higher end G 65 AMG also gets more power with the 6.0-litre twin-turbo V12 now belting out 621bhp and 101.97kgm of torque.

The G 500 and G 63 AMG come with engine start-stop function to reduce fuel consumption.

Other changes to the model line-up include a revised suspension, with an option for adjustable dampers on the G 500, revised instrument clusters and new paint shades for the AMG models.

Mercedes has also introduced a special model called the AMG Edition 463 which includes a new two-tone interior with carbon-look leather and contrast stitching, a two-tone dashboard and diamond design seat centres and a door panel trim. On the outside, this edition gets stainless steel under guard and 21-inch AMG alloy wheels. The special edition is only available on the
G 63 and G 65 AMG models.

The updated G-class will be available for order internationally this year.

It has, however, not yet been confirmed if the updates to the G-class will make its way to the Indian market where Mercedes offers the 4X4 SUV in its G 63 AMG guise.
