Having added 12 models to its portfolio this year, Mercedes-Benz brings 2016 to a close with the launch of the new AMG C 43. Priced at Rs 74.35 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the C 43 sedan is positioned above the standard C-class as a more accessible performance sedan to the full-blown Mercedes-AMG C 63 S already on sale.

Unlike the C 63 which uses the AMG developed 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8, the C 43 is powered by a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol motor good for 370hp and 570Nm. Power is channeled to all four wheels via a nine-speed automatic gearbox paired with Mercedes’ 4Matic all-wheel-drive system.

In terms of design, the C 43 wears a sportier body kit and larger alloy wheels as compared to the standard model, though styling is toned down as compared to its more powerful and expensive sibling. Inside, the cabin gets sports seats up front, a sports multifunction steering along with a different instrument cluster and trim inserts across the cabin.

The C 43 is the latest in a line of performance models launched by Mercedes to fill the gap between the automaker's luxury cars and their high-performance alternatives. Other models from the new series already present in the country include the SLC 43 and the GLE 43 Coupe that was launched as the GLE 450 AMG Coupe early this year.

While the C 43 sedan has no direct rivals, its closest competitor is the 333hp Audi S5 Sportback which at Rs 66.78 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) is about Rs 8 lakh less expensive.
