Maruti has announced that total bookings for its compact SUV, the Vitara Brezza, have crossed the 2 lakh unit mark. The milestone achievement comes nearly a year after the popular model was revealed to the public at the Auto Expo in February last year, before being launched the following month.

The Brezza has proven to be a very popular model in the segment, with waiting periods for the car rising to as high as nine months for certain variants within a few months of its launch. Sales quickly crossed the 50,000 unit mark in October last year, despite the model seeing a price hike in the preceding months. The Brezza went on to end the year with cumulative sales crossing the 85,000 units mark.

To heighten the appeal of its compact SUV, Maruti introduced the iCreate customisation programme for the Brezza late last year, offering prospective customers the chance to personalise their cars prior to taking delivery.

A rival to the Ford EcoSport and Mahindra NuvoSport, the Brezza was quick to establish itself as the segment bestseller, replacing the EcoSport within a few months of its launch. The compact SUV has been a hit amongst Indian buyers as it ticks all the right boxes in terms of cabin space, equipment, safety and fuel economy.

Maruti is expected to add a petrol variant to the Brezza line-up sometime this year in a bid to further widen the appeal of the compact SUV to buyers not looking for a diesel model.
