Maruti Celerio sales cross 1-lakh mark

Sales of the Celerio was powered by the availability of petrol, diesel and CNG versions, as well as the Auto Gear Shift technology on offer.

Maruti Suzuki India has revealed that the Celerio has sold more than 1,00,000 units. Launched at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo, the car has a number of firsts to its credit. It was the first car to offer Auto Gear Shift; it is one of the most fuel-efficient cars in the country with an ARAI-rated figure of 27.63kpl (VDi); and it makes use of the smallest automotive diesel engine in the world. The
793-cc, two-cylinder all-aluminium Suzuki DDiS is also the first-ever designed by the Japanese automaker. The diesel version was launched in June 2015.

In May 2015, the Celerio saw a 16 percent jump in sales from the previous month, and a 14 percent rise overall from May 2014.

Offered in petrol, diesel and CNG versions, the Celerio increased Maruti’s share in the entry-level hatchback segment by 10 percent, within a year of launch.

Speaking on the achievement, RS Kalsi, Executive Director - Marketing and Sales, Maruti Suzuki India Limited said, “We thank customers for their support to brand Celerio. The Celerio is the first car in India to introduce the acclaimed Auto Gear Shift technology and almost one third of the sales are of the Auto Gear Shift variants. Customers appreciated the convenience of automatic gear shifting with no loss in fuel efficiency and within a year of its launch, Maruti Suzuki’s share in the lower hatchback shot up to 71% from 61%.”
