Lamborghini’s SUV is on track for a launch by 2018, Audi boss Rupert Stadler has revealed to our sister-publicaiton, Autocar UK.

"It’s in Lamborghini’s cycle plan and it won’t deviate too much from the Urus concept" he said.

Stadler admitted that the new SUV is being developed by Audialongside a new family of group SUVs that also includes the new Bentley SUV and the next- generation Porsche Cayenne and Audi Q7. All of them will share an architecture and major compenents.

Asked whether it will be the most extreme of the family, he said "well it certainly won’t be a softie" indicating that it’s likely to have the sportiest characteristics in keeping with the Lamborghini brand. Though he wouldn’t be drawn on whether it could be the first Lambo road car to be powered by a diesel engine.

Stadler also revealed that the Audi luxury SUV range could be augmented with a new model sitting above the Q7. Likely to be called Q8 it will be potentially pitched as a full-on Range Rover rival with more luxurious spec than the seven-seat Q7. However, it won’t clash with the forthcoming Bentley SUV either: "Bentley can’t fill that gap" he stated.
