Jaguar has released an official image of the new production-spec Jaguar XE to mark the launch of its promotional campaign. Going by the image, it can be said that the production model is only subtly different from the first rendering of the car which was shown at the Geneva motor show in March. The Jaguar XE is due for a public debut at the Paris motor show in October, and will go on sale soon after.

The image is of the XE S derivative, which is likely to be one of the three models available at launch. The other two may also echo Jaguar's nomenclature used on the rest of its model range, with the standard XE and a high-performance XER-S sitting on either side of the XE S in the line up.

The Jaguar XE will be powered by a 2.0-litre, four cylinder engine from Jaguar Land Rover's new Ingenium range of engines. The XE will also be made available with the same 3.0-litre supercharged V6 engine found in the F-Type sports car. In V6S form, that engine produces 375bhp and 47kgm of torque. The XE's body is made of 75 percent aluminium, which will make this BMW 3-series rival lighter than many of its competitors. The XE will also feature advanced electrically-assisted steering, as well as a new 'All Surface progress Control system', which helps the car gain traction and is described by Jaguar as a "world-first technology".
