Hyundai, India’s second largest carmaker by sales, today said that the Creta SUV has received a good response in the country as well as in the overseas markets with over 70,000 units sold locally and around 15,770 orders recorded globally. The global markets mainly include Latin America, the Middle East and Africa and the carmaker plans to export to new markets soon.

Moreover, Hyundai is planning to increase the monthly production of the Creta SUV to 10,000 units from around 9,000 at present.

“Our goal is to maximise our production to make 10,000 units of Creta to meet the global customers’ demand while maintaining our leadership position in the domestic market,” Rakesh Srivastava, Sr. VP, Sales & Marketing, Hyundai Motor India said in a statement. “The Creta heralded a new chapter in Hyundai’s success story across the world showcasing HMIL’s success of ‘Make in India’ manufacturing initiative. We have received a strong response from world markets,” he added.

Since its launch in July, the Creta has also been instrumental in lending a fillip to Hyundai’s domestic sales. The Korean carmaker posted record sales for the month of August, September and October on the back to the strong demand for the SUV.

In October, Hyundai sold a total of 47,015 units, up 24 percent from 38,010 units last year and 2,78,879 units in the April-October period, up nearly 16 percent year on year. However, exports were down 12 percent to 100,464 units since April.

Besides, the Creta continued to be the best-selling SUV in July, August and September, before being outdone by the Mahindra Bolero in October, albeit by a few hundred units.
