Hyundai is reportedly working on a facelift for its popular SUV, the Creta, for the Indian market. The Creta has been a hot seller for the automaker in the country with sales crossing the one lakh mark around a year since its launch in 2015.

The facelifted Creta is expected to receive styling changes in line with other newer Hyundais, with noticeable changes expected to come down to an updated cabin and the integration of Hyundai’s family grille into the SUVs’ design up front. Exterior styling could mirror the styling revealed on the Brazilian-spec Creta revealed at the Sao Paulo auto show last year.

Under the hood, the facelifted Creta is expected to carry forward the existing engines but with the notable addition of mild-hybrid technology to improve fuel economy and benefit from any fiscal incentives given to mild hybrids over standard models. The Creta, though, will not be Hyundai’s first mild hybrid, with the automaker expected to introduce the tech in India under the hood of the all-new Verna following its launch in August this year.

The facelifted Creta is expected to arrive on Indian shores sometime late next year.

Hyundai has also lined up plans to replace the Creta in 2021 with a second-gen model already under development. The new second-gen model is expected to feature a seven-seat model alongside a regular five-seater to offer wider appeal and reach for the SUV in the market.

The automaker is also working on more SUVs such as a model based on the Carlino concept from last year’s Auto Expo, along with a small SUV to rival the likes of the Mahindra KUV100.
