Skoda will unveil the next-generation Fabia concept at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show 2014.

The new Fabia will be the first model to sit on the short version of VW Group's MQB platform, dubbed MQB-A. Other models set for this platform include the next-generation versions of the Volkswagen Polo and Seat Ibiza.

The platform will make the new Fabia longer and wider than the current model, with increased interior space and improved luggage capacity. The current Fabia hatchback measures 4000mm long and 1642mm wide, with a height of 1498mm and a maximum storage space of 1180 litres with the rear seats down.

Its styling will incorporate Skoda's new design language, most recently seen on the facelifted Yeti, which includes a more prominent front grille with a larger Skoda badge. Skoda boss Winfried Vahland has previously told Autocar UK that the new Fabia will "be far more youthful and have styling cues from the current S2000 rally car - much lower, much more squat and emotional in its look".

Despite Skoda saying that it doesn't want to alienate traditional Fabia buyers, Vahland says the new car will "major on features like connectivity to give it a more youthful appeal".

The Fabia's engines will be picked from VW Group's pool of MQB-compatible powertrains.

Skoda will unveil the new Fabia in concept-form at the Geneval Motor Show and could show a production version at the Paris Motor show later this year.
