Following the filing of an affidavit by SIAM, the Gauhati High Court has reversed its ban on the sale and registration of passenger cars under 1,500kg,

The latest order from the Gauhati High Court states, "There cannot be any prohibition restricting registration and sale of 4-wheelers with a mass up to 1,500kgs and quadricycles that have undergone the crash test and emission test conforming to the requirement and standards set down by the Bureau of Indian Standards and in respect of such vehicles which have been certified by a statutory authority of having met the said requirements.”

On July 26, the Gauhati High had passed this interim order, going by petitions filed by individuals questioning the safety of small cars based on the results of the Euro NCAP crash tests conducted in November 2014.

The decision was reversed as SIAM stated that all cars on sale met existing safety and emission standards.
