General Motors India has just announced that it has started shipping cars to Chile, and 140 units of the Chevrolet Beat hatchback will reach the South American country within the next few weeks. The cars, shipped on September 25, have been manufactured as left-hand-drive cars for the Chilean market.

Arvind Saxena, president and managing director, General Motors India, said that the first shipment of the Beat demonstrates the carmaker's commitment to make India-built products available in global markets, and that it will continue shipping models to Chile on a monthly basis. Exporting to not only Chile but also other global markets, is on General Motors India’s agenda and it's expecting to identify additional export markets, going forward. This, according to Saxena, will help drive capacity utilisation at the Talegaon plant.

The Chevrolet Beat, manufactured and sold in various markets all over the world, is General Motors’ bestselling model in India. On September 10, General Motors’ CEO, Mary Barra had participated in the first roll-out of the made-to-be-exported Chevrolet Beat at the Talegaon plant in Maharashtra. The Talegaon manufacturing facility has an annual capacity of 1,70,000 vehicles and 1,60,000 engines.
