Ather 450 expert review
9.0
The Ather 450 keeps its design clean and simple without looking too futuristic. It has sporty styling but still feels like a normal scooter for everyday use. The body panels, LED lighting and exposed trellis sub-frame give it a premium feel. Attention to detail is impressive, from the mirror stalks to the grab rail and floating side panels. Practicality has also been given importance, with a roomy floorboard and a large underseat storage area that can fit a full-face helmet.
6.0
The riding position feels familiar and comfortable, with a seat height that is easy to manage. Ride quality leans more towards sporty than soft, but it never becomes too uncomfortable. With a pillion onboard, the suspension feels slightly more pliant. The scooter feels light and easy to handle in city traffic, while the 12-inch wheels add confidence.
9.0
The biggest highlight of the Ather 450 is its performance. Unlike most electric scooters of its time, it feels quick and energetic in traffic. Acceleration is instant thanks to the electric motor’s zero-lag response, and the scooter keeps pulling strongly well past city speeds. It feels comparable to a 125cc petrol scooter in most situations. Overtaking is easy because of the strong mid-range performance, and even with a pillion, it does not feel strained.
Ather claims a realistic range of 75km in Eco mode and 60km in Power mode. Charging times are also reasonable, with 0-80 percent taking 2 hours 40 minutes and a full charge needing 4 hours 18 minutes. Fast charging adds around 1km of range per minute.
7.0
The Ather 450 feels sporty and agile in the city. Its lightweight chassis and quick responses make it easy to flick through traffic. Handling is sharp and enjoyable, while the suspension setup balances comfort and sporty behaviour reasonably well. Braking performance is strong thanks to disc brakes at both ends, although the rear brake can lock up under hard braking.
9.0
The 7-inch touchscreen display is one of the scooter’s standout features. It supports navigation, ride data, park assist and smartphone connectivity through an app. The scooter also receives over-the-air updates. The screen is feature-rich, although touch response can occasionally feel inconsistent with gloves.
7.0
At its launch price, the Ather 450 was expensive for a scooter, but it offered a far more complete electric scooter experience than most rivals. It combined strong performance, practicality, useful technology and realistic usability into one package. The only concerns were long-term dependability and how quickly Ather could expand its charging and service network. Even so, the Ather 450 felt like a genuine replacement for a petrol scooter rather than just an alternative.

•4dHi Autocar India, I am planning to buy an electric scooter or motorcycle for my daily office commute of around 60 km (1,200 km per month). My priorities are strong performance, comfort on bad roads, reliability, and good after-sales service. I currently ride a Bajaj Avenger Street 160 and would like my next vehicle to feel like an upgrade or at least offer comparable performance. My budget is ₹1.5-1.8 lakh, although I can stretch it for the right product. I like the Ultraviolette Tesseract, but the repeated delays make me unsure about waiting for it. Pillion comfort, spacious seating, and a reasonable seat height are important as I often ride with family. My previous two-wheelers included Activa, Shine, Unicorn, and Avenger, and if I were buying an ICE vehicle today, I would choose the TVS Ronin. Based on these requirements, which EV would you recommend?

Autocar India
Since you have a comfortable budget, our recommendation would be the TVS iQube S 4.7 / ST 5.3 variants, because they have big batteries which should comfortably help you cover multiple days' worth of riding on a single charge. The iQube is a proven, no-nonsense product from a big, reputed brand and TVS also has a widespread service network among EV scooters, which will matter more than spec-sheet numbers and feel-good farkles when you’ll use it every day. While the iQube's performance won't blow you away, its comfort, practicality and stress-free nature are sure to compensate for that.If performance is your number one priority and you can live with less comfort, the Ather 450S/450X are exciting options. However, given your long daily commutes, do bear in mind, it will demand serious commitment day after day, especially over bad roads. If you must have an electric motorcycle form at this budget, the Revolt RV400 is the most settled option, but neither its performance nor its range are attributes to write home about. The e-bike space is still very nascent and our recommendation today is to buy an electric scooter over them.
