Italian two-wheeler major Piaggio has unveiled a stunning looking new scooter, the Vespa 946, at the EICMA show, Milan. The 946 manages to bring together futuristic design flair without giving up on Vespa’s trademark classic family looks. The 946 sports a single handlebar-mounted headlight, which also houses a digital instruments cluster. The new 946 comes with smart chrome trim and edgy vents on its front apron. Its steel-welded aluminium body shows off additional cooling vents on the engine cover. The seat looks futuristic, flowing in free form away from the scooter body. The 946 uses a round taillight unit that sits flush-fitted on the scooter’s slender tail section.

This Vespa 946 deploys a 125cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled and 3-valve engine with fuel injection. The 946 is built around a monocoque frame, and uses a single side, trailing arm shock in front with monoshock rear suspension. The 946 uses a single disc brake at the front and rear, in addition to which it gets upmarket equipment including traction control and anti-lock brakes (ABS).

Although there isn’t any indication that this could happen soon, we do hope Vespa finds it viable to bring handsome, new scooters like this to India in the near future, with the Indian market rapidly evolving and reaching a stage where we can accept and take to premium scooters like the 946.
