A couple of months ago, images of a new KTM RC model being tested surfaced online. Now, Chinese type-approval documents filed by KTM and CFMoto have inadvertently revealed several key details about what appears to be the upcoming RC450. An image included in the filings also shows what looks like the production-ready motorcycle.
- Based on the CFMoto 450SR-S platform
- 449cc parallel-twin engine will produce 55.4hp
- Features single-sided swingarm and WP suspension
KTM RC450: All you need to know
KTM RC450 will be powered by a parallel-twin engine
The documents confirm earlier speculation that the RC450 is largely based on the existing CFMoto 450SR-S. It uses the same 449cc parallel-twin engine and shares major components such as the trellis frame and single-sided swingarm. That said, the KTM will offer a slight bump in performance, with the engine rated at 55.4hp compared to the CFMoto’s 51.7hp. The RC450 also weighs slightly less, tipping the scales at 168kg versus the 450SR-S’s 171kg kerb weight. A claimed top speed of 195kph is also listed in the approval documents.
Despite the shared platform, there are several differences worth noting. Most prominently, the RC450 uses WP suspension components instead of the KYB units found on the CFMoto. While only a single image of the bike has surfaced so far – limiting detailed observations – it does confirm the presence of a quickshifter and a steering damper. There’s also a strong likelihood that the KTM will feature higher-set footpegs and a lower handlebar, resulting in a more committed riding position than the 450SR-S.
The documents further reveal that the RC450 has a wheelbase of 1,360mm, which is 10mm shorter than the CFMoto’s, hinting at sharper, more aggressive geometry. The bodywork follows KTM’s familiar RC design language and even features small winglets integrated into the front fairing.
Braking hardware comes courtesy of Bosch, and like the CFMoto, the RC450 runs on a 110/70-17 front tyre and a 150/60-17 rear tyre.
KTM RC450 launch and price
KTM RC450 India launch unlikely
There is no official confirmation on launch timelines or pricing for the RC450. However, the appearance of a production-ready motorcycle in type-approval documents suggests that a global debut could be imminent. Since the bike is based on the CFMoto platform and is not manufactured by KTM in India, a launch in India appears unlikely, at least in the near future.
