Motorcycle specialist Bajaj has in the past given birth to some of India’s more successful two-wheeler brands, the Pulsar and Discover being well-known, recent examples. There’s been no shortage of models under each household bike umbrella. It just rolled out the Pulsar RS 200 and AS 150/ 200, and has exciting bikes, such as the CS-series cruiser, nearing the road-ready stage. All of which distracts from Bajaj’s commuter-bike presence, but that’s now confirmed as being augmented.
Bajaj recently concluded a sizeable shareholders gathering, where the company's senior management announced that their in-house R&D department is working hard on coming up with an all-new commuter bike platform. In its early days now, with no fixed engine capacity out in the open, or even a name for the line-up, you can expect the new series to be small-capacity, mass-market friendly bikes that will enter and sell alongside the existing Bajaj Discover fleet.
Engine capacity can be expected to be anywhere in the region of 125cc-150cc, fitting the tried and tested four-stroke, air-cooled and single-cylinder format, with a host of Bajaj-typical differentiating factors to be seen on these new commuter bikes for sure.
