Hero MotoCorp recently showcased five new models which will also be showcased at the Auto Expo 2014.
The Hero RNT is a diesel motorcycle concept designed for use in rural areas and farms. The RNT looks unconventional, but packs in loads of innovative features. The RNT is powered by a four-stroke, 150cc, liquid-cooled, diesel engine, which will be offered with a turbocharger as well. Peak power of 13.5bhp at 4000rpm with 3.56kgm of torque at 1600rpm, is transferred to the rear wheel through a six-speed gearbox. Some unique features of the RNT are the wide, flat loading surfaces with strap bars, as well as multi utility folding front, rear and side racks. Comfort is taken care of by a large seat and spacious footboard. There is also a removable secondary LED headlight with internal Li-ion battery, an LED headlight is provided for good visibility even with the front rack loaded. Ten-spoke alloys comprise of a 300mm front disc mounted on to a 120/70 x 17 inch tyre, and a 220mm rear disc mounted on to a 150/60 x 17 inch tyre.
Based on the requirement, RNT can be switched over to two-wheel drive mode, as Hero is also working on powering the RNT with an electric motor that produces 1.3bhp of power, installed in the front wheel hub, controllable by using a secondary throttle. This motor can either be run independently or in conjunction with standard chain drive. Hero is confident about India having a strong market for a product like RNT, and is working on a production version that could go on sale in mid-2015.
