Superleggera in Italian means ‘super-light’. Ducati Motor Holding has aptly named its new limited edition, the 1199 Superleggera. This motorcycle is a lighter version of the 1199 Panigale and they have achieved this with the use of cutting edge materials such as titanium, magnesium and carbon fibre. The 1199 Superleggera houses a 1198cc, L-twin, liquid-cooled four-stroke engine which generates maximum power of 200bhp at 11500rpm and peak torque of 13.66kgm at 10200rpm. The Superleggera uses 4 titanium valves per cylinder in its head and also houses titanium connecting rods.

This limited edition 1199 tips the scales at 177kg which results in a staggering power to weight ratio. The 1199 Superleggera will first be offered to Desmosedici RR and R series superbike owners and will later on be open for sale. Ducati claim to have sold 75 percent of the 500 units which will be produced of this limited edition novel motorcycle. Enthusiasts attending the 2013 edition of the EICMA Motorcycle Show in Milan are set to catch a glimpse of this super light 1199 at the Ducati stand.
