New Volkswagen Polo vs rivals: Price comparison

    Volkswagen has launched the facelifted Polo. Here’s how it compares to rivals on price.

    Volkswagen has launched the facelifted Polo starting at Rs 4.99 lakh for the base petrol variant. The top-end petrol variant is priced at Rs 6.07 lakh. 
     
    The all-new 1.5-litre diesel engine makes 89bhp and 23.45kgm of torque. Prices for the diesel model start at Rs 6.27 lakh for the base variant, while the top-end variant costs Rs 7.37 lakh. We compare how the prices of the top-end petrol and diesel models of the new Polo stack up against some other premium hatchbacks namely, the Maruti Swift, Hyundai i20, Nissan Micra and the Renault Pulse. 
     
    New Volkswagen Polo Petrol
     
    All the cars come with 1.2-litre engines. The Highline variant of the new Polo costs Rs 6.07 lakh. Three rivals priced lower are the Swift ZXi priced at Rs 5.65 lakh, Pulse RxZ at Rs 5.77 lakh and the Micra XL at 5.44 lakh. The Micra top-end XV is available with CVT only and hence we consider the middle XL variant. The i20 is priced highest at Rs 6.74 lakh for the Asta (O). The Swift is the least expensive of the lot.
     
    New Volkswagen Polo Diesel
     
    The Polo, Micra and Pulse get 1.5-litre engines, while the Swift has a 1.3-litre engine and the i20 gets a 1.4-litre unit. The Polo Highline diesel is priced at Rs 7.37 lakh. The Swift ZDi is the most affordable at Rs 6.70 lakh. The Pulse RxZ costs Rs 6.99 lakh, while the Micra XV Premium costs 7.03 lakh. The i20 Asta is priced higher than the rest at Rs 7.52 lakh.
     
    New Volkswagen Polo petrol automatic
     
    The new Volkswagen Polo GT TSI gets a seven-speed DSG automatic gearbox and is priced at Rs 7.99 lakh. The Micra with CVT auto 'box costs Rs 6.41 lakh, while the i20 Auto costs Rs 7.76 lakh.
