Mercedes-Benz has the long wheelbase E-class. And come Auto Expo 2018, BMW will have the 6-series GT to take on the Merc. The 6GT’s fastback tail makes it look distinctive, while the massive rear seat space is sure to win over the chauffeur-driven.
BMW’s mad sports sedan has gone madder still in its latest iteration. Power is up to 600hp and the claimed 0-100kph time is down to 3.4 seconds. In a first for the M5, all-wheel drive is standard but you do have the option to have power sent solely to the rear wheels. The new M5 launches at Auto Expo 2018.
BMW’s chic, green hatchback has been updated but it won’t be going on sale in India any time soon. BMW will solely be bringing it to the Auto Expo as a technology demonstrator.
No one told BMW green can’t be sexy. The recently unveiled and rather gorgeous i8 Roadster will be on display at the German carmaker’s vast stand. Do remember to keep the camera phone handy.
Auto Expo 2018 is where you’ll get to see the all-new X3 in the metal. It may be evolutionary in design but it betters the old model on just about every front. The good news? It will be available at a BMW showroom near you, come May 2018.
DC Design has had some showstoppers at the Auto Expo over the years and the 2018 edition of the motor show will see the debut of the TCA sportscar. TCA stands for titanium, carbon-fibre and aluminium which is what much of the lightweight body is made of. The TCA will be powered by a 4.0-litre V8 engine and will carry a price tag in the region of Rs 40 lakh.
The second-generation Honda Amaze will make its global debut at the Auto Expo 2018. Honda officials involved in the development of the car point to a more premium package this time around. Expect City-like styling and an upmarket cabin.
Before you get too excited, know that Honda will not be launching the new Civic in India till 2019. With that out of the way, you’ll be happy to know Honda’s legendary executive sedan will be on display at the motor show. The latest model is low-slung, sleek and marks a return to form for Honda.
Also coming soon from the house of Honda is the latest generation CR-V. It looks smart but what really sets it apart is the fact that this one has a third row of seats. Another critical differentiator? The new CR-V will be available in India with a diesel engine.
Hyundai will have on display the updated i20 hatchback. Hyundai’s new-age ‘cascading’ grille, new design alloy wheels and a re-profiled tail gate will give the car a visual update. There will be an update to the infotainment system too. Also new will be the option of a CVT gearbox with the 1.2-litre petrol engine.
Hyundai wants to highlight its prowess in electric vehicles and will have on display the Ioniq EV. The Ioniq has a claimed range of 250km per charge but don’t expect this EV to go on sale in India in the near future.
The Kona is a funky small SUV from Hyundai’s international line-up and it will be on display at the Auto Expo. Interestingly, Hyundai is evaluating the Kona EV for an India launch so this is a model you might just see more of.
Kia will start sales in India in 2019 and the SP Concept tells you exactly what’s to come from the Korean carmaker. The Hyundai Creta-sized SUV has been shown in teasers only so far but from whatever we can see, it does look rather stylish.
Mahindra is known to shock and awe with its concepts at the Auto Expo and the Stinger convertible SUV will be the vehicle for the job at the 2018 event. Built on the TUV300’s ladder frame platform, the Stinger will be under 4-metre in length and will use a fabric roof ala Range Rover Evoque convertible.
The all-new Rexton will be on display at the Auto Expo 2018 albeit not with SsangYong badging but with Mahindra badging. Yes, the Toyota Fortuner rival will go on sale in India as a Mahindra and we’ll see it badged as such for the very first time at the Auto Expo.
Mini will be using the Auto Expo 2018 as a launch pad for its new Countryman. While the Countryman looks like a typical Mini, it stands out from the other cars in the line-up for its larger size, beefier stance and squared-out ends. That it happens to be the most practical of the Minis also makes it that little bit more interesting.
The Concept Future S points to future Maruti SUV that will slot in under the Vitara Brezza. The model will be 200mm shorter than the Brezza and will also debut an all-new design language for Maruti. An upright A-pillar and high bonnet line suggest the shape will be more SUV than jacked-up hatchback.
Think of the e-Survivor concept as Suzuki’s idea of a lunar rover. It’s small, has virtually non-existent overhangs and has humongous ground clearance. It’s built on a sturdy ladder-frame chassis and there’s an electric motor in each of the four wheels to bail you out when the going gets rough.
The third-generation Swift will be launched at Auto Expo 2018, but going by the volume of bookings already made, this one’s set to be a blockbuster hit. It looks attractive, boasts a more spacious cabin and is also available with automatic gearbox options for the very first time.
Wanted to venture off-road in your Merc E-Class but were worried about damage? Perhaps the E-Class All-Terrain will interest you. Based on the E-Class estate, it gets body cladding, all-wheel drive and enhanced clearance. Best bit? It’ll go on sale in India soon.
For those who crave first class comfort on the road, Mercedes has the Maybach S650. It’s equipped with every kind of luxury. And then there’s that 630hp, 6.0-litre V12 engine under the hood.
Mercedes is venturing to EVs in a big way and the Concept EQ gives you a strong idea of what to expect from its EV-only EQ sub-brand. The SUV will be on display at Mercedes’ Auto Expo stand.
Renault will have its Zoe EV on display at the Auto Expo but the version that will get EV-heads tingling is the Zoe e-Sport. The concept is powered by two electric motors that make a combined 460hp! Renautl claims a 0-100kph time of 3.2 seconds.
The Trezor concept looks straight out of the future. Unbelievably low and wide and with a glasshouse that wraps around the pillar-less cockpit, the Trezor is a work of art. It’s no slow coach either. Its Formula E racer-derived powertrain is good for 350hp.
Tata’s rival to the Hyundai i20 is one of the most hotly awaited new reveals at Auto Expo 2018. The car will carry Tata’s latest Impact Design 2.0 design language and promises to be a departure from everything we’ve seen from the carmaker so far. Cabin quality also promises to be leagues ahead of what we’ve come to expect from Tata Motors.
Another Tata that has generated a lot of curiosity is the H5 concept that will preview Tata’s upcoming SUV. Again, styling will be very different to all Tatas before and the images released so far suggest bold elements and unique details. Huge wheels, slim LED headlamps and a complex glasshouse are just some of the design features revealed as yet.
Tata will take the wraps of the performance versions of the Tiago hatchback and Tigor compact sedan. Redesigned bumpers with exaggerated air inlets, body kits and a lowered suspension will give the models a very purposeful look. To give the cars the go to match the show, Tata will equip them with the 1.2-turbo-petrol engine from the Nexon.
The Tata Racemo will make its India debut at Auto Expo 2018. Small, purposeful and light weight, the sportscar has all the right ingredients. And don’t you think it’s quite striking to look at too?
Toyota will take on the likes of the Honda City, Maruti Ciaz and Hyundai Verna with its upcoming mid-size sedan, the Yaris. The model will make its debut in India at Auto Expo 2018 and will go on sale in the coming months.
