Haval F7 and F7X: Premium, Futuristic & Intelligent
Great Wall Motor’s capable and futuristic SUV siblings have attracted a lot of attention at the Expo. Here’s the lowdown on them
When a vehicle registers sales figures of 1,40,770 units within a year of its launch, you know the said car is special. We are talking about the Haval F7, of course. The classy SUV is among the compelling products that have been put up for display by Chinese automotive giant Great Wall Motor (GWM) at the Auto Expo 2020. Haval is among the three brands that are owned by GWM – the others are GWM EV and Great Wall Pick-up. GWM is China’s biggest manufacturer of SUVs, and its expertise and know-how shows when it comes to the F7. The F7, launched last year, is an ideal blend of performance, style, and seamless connectivity and intelligence.
It is aimed squarely at the young, discerning and outgoing urban consumer who knows what he wants. The SUV, the first marque product to represent Haval’s global design language, has a distinctly upright stance and is attractively styled. A large grille that dominates the front fascia and a pronounced muscularity sets the aesthetic tone and renders the F7 a looker from the word go. The midsize, five-seater SUV gets two turbo-petrol engines internationally –1.5-litre and 2-litre units. The former develops about 124 kW (168PS) and 285 Nm, while the latter spews 165 kW (224 PS). Both the engines are mated to a 7-speed dual clutch automatic. Step inside, and you realize that not only is the cabin commodious and exudes high quality, but it is also filled to the brim with features. These include a large touchscreen infotainment system, power adjustable front seats and a panoramic sunroof. The F7 also scores big on safety features and these include six airbags, Forward Collision Warning system, and Fatigue Driving Monitoring, among others. Its automatic braking system can identify pedestrians to avoid collisions and protect pedestrians and passengers.
The F7 is, of course, not the only SUV in Haval’s extensive line-up; there is also the F7X that sports dynamic fastback styling and packs in performance and stand-out features. The SUV Coupe shares a lot of its mechanicals with the F7, but is differentiated from its sibling by that sloping roofline. F7X also features Haval’s new generation AI networking and L2 autonomous driving system that create a perfect dialogue between you and your vehicle. The F7X also has been designed with three dimensional safety philosophy of GWM keeping safety of passengers, pedestrians and vehicle in mind. Other notable features in the international F7X model include several driving modes and a semi auto parking system.
