Asked by: Srikant I want to buy a new car because my current one is almost 11 years old. I drive around 500–600 km per month on average. I’m looking for a 6–7 seater vehicle on a budget, and I’m torn between the Maruti XL6 and the Hyundai Alcazar. Can you suggest which one would be better, or recommend other options? The two cars you have shortlisted fall in different segments; in fact, where the Maruti XL6 price ends, is where the Hyundai Alcazar price begins. The Alcazar is a superior vehicle in terms of comfort, quality, features and engines. However, the XL6 MPV body style means that space efficiency on the interior is better. The XL6 has just a single engine option - a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol with a 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic gearbox. Also, it is not as powerful as the Alcazar, but it will be more fuel-efficient. If you are budget-conscious and want to keep running costs low, the Maruti XL6 is the better choice for you. You could also consider the Kia Carens Clavis, which falls between these two on price. Asked by: Sayantan Ray I am planning to replace my 2020 Nexon Petrol Manual with an automatic petrol sub-compact car. My usage is around 700–800 km per month in the city, with 2–3 long highway trips of about 1,000–1,200 km a year. My priorities are fuel efficiency, driving pleasure, and comfort. With a budget of ₹10–11 lakh ex-showroom, I am confused between the Fronx Turbo, Kiger Turbo, Dzire, and C3 Turbo AT. Please suggest if there is any other car I should consider. Of your shortlisted cars, the Citroen C3 Turbo AT is the best choice. It's almost uncanny combination of ride comfort and driving pleasure isn't replicated by many, with a strong engine and a smooth but responsive 6-speed torque converter automatic. Its fuel efficiency, though not best in class, is decent as well; just make sure you have a dealer and service centre close enough to you, as Citroen's network is still growing. While the Renault Kiger turbo and Nissan Magnite turbo represent better value for money, and better fuel economy, they aren't as comfy or fun to drive as the Citroen. And the Maruti Suzuki Fronx turbo AT, again, while more fuel efficient, will only just about fit into your budget, and that too for a lower-spec variant. Asked by: Ravi I have been using a Honda Jazz for the past 8 years, and it has served me well. I’m planning to go in for a new car 2026 model, sometime in the first quarter of 2026. I myself drive the car and prefer a manual transmission to an automatic. I enjoy making cross-country road trips and am looking for a car that is good in performance and handling, with good all-around visibility. My budget is around ₹15L, but it can be stretched. I was looking at the Skoda Kushaq, Honda Amaze, and Hyundai Venue. Please advise. Considering your preference for a car that excels in performance and handling, we would recommend the Skoda Kushaq. The Skoda Kushaq has a very peppy 1.5-litre petrol engine; however, that only comes paired with an automatic gearbox. Since you want a manual, you will have to opt for the 1.0 litre engine; however, this unit too delivers quite nicely on performance. You can also consider the Skoda Slavia, powertrain-wise wise it is the same as the Kushaq, but being a sedan, the handling feels more sporty, and what's nice is that the Slavia has a very good ground clearance too. Asked by: Rekha Murali I am looking at a compact SUV automatic within 11 lakhs. Nissan Magnite, Sonet, and Fronx are options available. Sonet provides only iMT. Which would be the best buy for city driving and a couple of highway trips in a year? Would the Mahindra 3X0 be good? The Mahindra XUV 3XO is a very spacious SUV, especially so for rear passengers seated three abreast; however, boot space is tight. Both MPFi and the direct injection petrol engine are peppy to drive and are paired with a torque convertor gearbox, which is the smoothest type of autobox. Bear in mind, though, that the Mahindra 3XO is a heavy car and tuned more for driving pleasure than for efficiency. If this is a problem for you, the Maruti Suzuki Fronx is a very good all-rounder providing good interior space, decent performance and good fuel efficiency. The only issue is that the automatic is an AMT and thus it isn't smooth like a torque convertor unit, you will notice the shifts. Can’t decide which car to buy?
