    My wife and I both currently ride an 11-year-old Yamaha FZ. She is 5′3″ and I am 5′8″; both of us weigh over 90 kg. I don’t feel confident that this bike is safe and responsive enough — it needs a lot of throttle, is hard to manoeuvre in traffic, and handles pothole-ridden city roads poorly, especially for pillion riding. I also have back issues. What would be the ideal bike for us to upgrade to so we can ride together comfortably, mainly in the city with potholes and occasionally on the highway?

    Bikes you should take a look at are the Royal Enfield Hunter / Classic / Bullet / Meteor 350, Scram 440, TVS Ronin and Honda CB350 trio. All have smooth, torque-rich engines, comfortable seats for two passengers and great suspension comfort. 

    These factors will help you on both broken city roads and open highways. We would recommend you take a test ride of all machines with your wife so as to ascertain which one is best for you.

    Asked by: Harsh I’m a beginner rider, 5′6″ tall, planning to buy a new bike next year. My first choice is the Triumph Scrambler 400X - I’ve had my eyes on it since early 2024. However, I’m also considering the newly launched TVS RTX 300 because of its overall package, including a quick shifter and cruise control. I need the bike for daily office commutes, occasional weekend rides, and some soft trail riding. I won’t regret buying either, but I’d like to hear expert opinions to help decide. Both the bikes you have mentioned will fit the bill for your use case. However, both the Triumph Scrambler 400 X and the TVS Apache RTX 300 have tall seat heights (830mm or more), and for a new rider of your stature, they could feel like a little too much, especially at slow speeds and during off-roading. We would strongly recommend a test ride of both before you decide to go ahead with your purchase. If these two prove to be too tall for you, something more street-biased (and crucially, lower) like the Triumph Speed 400 or Apache RTR 310 from these respective brands would be a good fit.

Between the Tata Safari and the Mahindra XUV700, it’s the Mahindra car that we would recommend. It is more comfortable, has strong engines, offers a more refined driving experience and has better features.The Safari scores well on design, feels a bit tougher over bad sections and has the more spacious third row, but all things considered, the Mahindra XUV700 is better. It might be worth waiting for a few months, however, as the XUV700 facelift is just around the corner.

    Asked by: Ajay I am 4′11″ tall and want a lightweight petrol scooter with a budget of ₹1 lakh. Please suggest. The lightest petrol-powered scooters in India are the Yamaha Fascino and Yamaha RayZR, both coming in just under the 100-kilo mark. Other models you can consider are the TVS Scooty Zest 110 and Honda Dio 110, both of which are just a few kilos heavier than the Yamahas. Don't purely consider the specifications on paper. We would strongly recommend you go to a showroom and at least sit on the scooters to see which one is manageable for your petite physique.

My preferences, in order, are: 1. long-term reliability (10+ years), 2. build quality, 3. comfort & space, and 4. mileage. I have considered mid-size SUVs like Victoriq, Hyryder, Creta and Elevate - and I am more inclined toward the Elevate because it ticks all my priority boxes compared to the others. Before I proceed, am I missing anything important that I should evaluate? The Honda Elevate suits your requirements well. It is reliable, has a five-star JNCAP crash rating, offers a spacious and comfortable cabin, and its fuel efficiency should also be reasonable. You can also consider the Maruti Victoris Hybrid if your running is high. It delivers well on all the same points, and its fuel economy is exceptional. You can expect over 20 kmpl in the city and on the highway. Moreover, the naturally aspirated 1.5-litre engine of the Elevate may return about 30 to 35 percent lower efficiency.
