I am looking to upgrade to a premium SUV. I drove my friend's Compass AT Diesel in the Leh area and was highly impressed with its performance. Compared to the Seltos and Creta Petrol AT variants, is it worth buying the Diesel AT Compass, since the delta cost is significant? I am also confused between the new Thar Roxx and the Compass. My monthly running will be around 1,000 km (city and highway) for a family of four. Please advise, considering ride and handling, maintenance cost, resale value, and the outlook for diesel cars.

The Jeep Compass' ride and handling balance are outstanding, and it feels a lot more surefooted. However, its maintenance costs will be higher, and its resale value won't be as strong as that of the Hyundai Creta or Kia Seltos either.

The Hyundai Creta price for the Petrol EX(O) CVT variant starts at ₹14.37 lakh, the Kia Seltos price for the Petrol HTK+ (O) IVT variant at ₹15.75 lakh, whereas the Jeep Compass price for the Longitude (O) AT variant starts at ₹26.83 lakh (all starting ex-showroom prices for automatic variants). So, pick the Jeep Compass over the Korean midsize SUVs only if you give more weightage to driving pleasure over other factors and the price.

In comparison, the Thar Roxx's driving manners are nowhere near as sophisticated as the other cars you've mentioned, so unless you want to go off-road or you're enamoured by its butch image, you could consider the Mahindra XUV700, which is a better, more rounded family car. You could consider the petrol-automatic version since your usage is limited.
