•3dI am confused between the BMW X3 30 and the Mercedes-Benz GLC 300. My driving is around 75-80% in the city, and I also enjoy driving. I want a car that is engaging to drive while still being comfortable on city roads. Rear seat comfort is important, as passengers should feel stable and not experience excessive movement. I am also open to waiting for about a year until 2027 to see if the GLC gets a facelift. The X3 has been recently launched, and I prefer buying the latest model available. Could you please help me decide which car would be the better choice?

With 75-80% city use, some fun drives on weekends, and a clear need to keep the back seat calm, the Mercedes GLC 300 4MATIC fits your brief better right now. In slow to medium city speeds, it rides softer, so speed breakers and broken patches are handled with less bounce, and people in the back do not get tossed around. The steering is light at low speeds, and the automatic gearbox, which changes gears on its own, is very smooth, so daily traffic is easy, yet the engine still feels strong when you want to make a quick overtake. It is also quieter inside, which makes city trips feel less tiring.The trade-off is that when you really push on a fast road, the GLC does not feel as eager or as tight as the BMW. Pick the BMW X3 xDrive30 if you drive yourself most of the time and want a car that feels sharper and more connected on an open road. The new X3 also gives you the freshest design and tech today, which matters to you. Just note that its ride is firmer in the city, so the back seat will feel a bit more movement on rough roads than in the GLC.On waiting: a GLC facelift by 2026-27 is possible, but India timing is uncertain, and updates may be small. If “latest” is your top goal, the new X3 gives you that today. If city comfort for family comes first, the GLC 300 is the safer bet.

I am looking for a well-balanced option that offers comfort, reliability, and good fuel efficiency for both city use and occasional highway driving. I am not in a hurry and can wait until the end of the year if better options or updates are expected. Could you please suggest the best choices in this budget, keeping long-term ownership and ease of driving in mind?

You haven't mentioned the body style or whether you have any transmission preference (MT or AT). But since you're used to the low-slung Honda Civic manual, chances are the new crop of compact SUVs might not give you the same satisfying 'sporty' drive experience. You could consider the Hyundai i20 N Line, which is a 'fun-to-drive' hatchback. You could get either the manual or dual-clutch automatic version well within your budget. If it is a fun-to-drive sedan you're after, the entry-level 1.0 TSI manual versions of the Volkswagen Virtus and Skoda Slavia will fall within Rs 15 lakhs (on-road) too. Both these cars are likely to get an update this year, with similar changes as their mid-size SUV counterparts, Taigun and Kushaq; expect minor cosmetic updates and an upgraded air-con system with its manual version.

•3dI am planning to buy an EV in the ₹50-60 lakh price range. My key requirements are around 500 km range, along with good space, comfort, and overall refinement. I have shortlisted the Tesla Model Y L and the BYD Sealion 7. Which of these would make more sense for my needs?

While both your shortlisted EVs are excellent in their own right, they do have their shortcomings. The Tesla Model Y L is priced at Rs 62 lakh (ex-showroom), putting it outside your budget, and though it has an impressive WLTP range, it has yet to be proven in the real world. Similarly, though the BYD Sealion 7 represents excellent value for money, its real-world range is far removed from its official figure, and in our real-world test, the dual-motor version managed around 370km on a full charge. Of the two, we'd recommend the Sealion 7, which offers better value overall than the Tesla. However, another EV you should consider in your price range is the recently unveiled Hyundai Ioniq 5 facelift. The original model came the closest to delivering a real-world 500km range in our tests, and this new one, with its larger 84kWh battery, should easily cross that figure. Hyundai's EV powertrains are among the most efficient around, and the Ioniq 5 is as well-appointed and equipped, spacious and comfortable as the best out there.

I also take occasional long drives of 700-1,000 km once every two months. I enjoy driving in the mountains, but do not do any serious off-roading. I already own a hatchback that my wife uses for short drives, and I am now looking to upgrade to an SUV. My family size is 2+1, and I prefer a 5-seater SUV with a 5-star safety rating. My budget is under ₹20 lakh (ex-showroom). I am confused between the diesel and petrol options. My current choices include the Harrier/Safari, Duster, Sierra, and Kushaq. Could you please help me choose the right car and variant? Suggestions for any other suitable options are also welcome.

With short daily runs inside base and a big highway trip every couple of months, under Rs. 20 lakh, the Tata Sierra is a good fit for you. Your use is lots of start-stop and only 10-15 km a day, the 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine with the automatic is the better pick, and you avoid the diesel’s DPF filter, which can clog with frequent short trips. For the mountains and those 700-1000 km drives, the Sierra's turbo petrol pulls cleanly on inclines and during quick overtakes, it feels stable at speed, and it carries a full 5-star crash rating. Ground clearance is good enough for bad roads and hill routes without being bulky to park.Tata also has a wider service network compared to Skoda and Renault, so it'll be easier to find workshops near remote postings.One trade-off to note. Tata service experience can be hit or miss, and if that is an issue, then consider the Hyundai Creta.Overall, for your usage pattern and budget, the Sierra lines up best.

Unfortunately, both Mahindra and Hyundai have paired their respective automatic versions with a sunroof, which should rule them out for you.The Honda Elevate V CVT doesn't get a sunroof, but it delivers strong performance, and it meets your requirements. It is a no-nonsense car with comfortable seats, excellent ride-handling balance, and a smooth CVT automatic transmission. It is also a size larger than the Mahindra XUV 3XO and Hyundai Venue, so space and boot space are better too.Another option you could consider is the 2026 Volkswagen Taigun Highline 1.0TSI with the new 8-speed automatic transmission.

I am looking for a comfortable vehicle with good after-sales service, adequate charging infrastructure, and conveniently located service centres in South Mumbai (Colaba), as well as along the route to Goa and in the Margao area. My budget is around ₹30–35 lakh. Could you please guide me to the right choice?

Shortlist the Toyota Innova Hycross hybrid, Maruti Invicto hybrid and the Mahindra XEV 9S. The Innova Hycross is a car you just can't go wrong with - it is reliable, comfortable, and the hybrid powertrain makes it quite efficient too. The Invicto is the Innova's badged-engineered version sold and marketed by Maruti - it misses a few features, but it is a much better value for money. Both these are cars you just can't go wrong with.The Mahindra XEV 9S is an excellent EV alternative. It has plenty of performance, new-age features, and its charging capability, as well as real-world range, are much superior to most EVs at this price. So, Mumbai to Goa with one stop along the way (for 30-40 minutes) while you stop for snacks/lunch, is all you need to reach Goa with ease. Do keep in mind that space, especially in the last row, isn't as good as the hybrid options listed here. And if you plan to carry six or seven adults at all times with luggage, then go for the Hycross or Invicto.
