Is the new Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 value for money?

Autocar India says: The Super Meteor 650 is the most expensive series production motorcycle Royal Enfield has sold in India to date and with prices starting at Rs 3.54 lakh, it costs a good Rs 50,000 more than the base Interceptor 650. What you are paying for here is literally ‘more motorcycle’ – the Super Meteor is a larger bike than its 650 siblings and, at 241kg, it's also considerably heavier. Weight has its downsides, but the positive effect is that you get a bigger looking bike with more presence.

While the Super Meteor shares the same engine as the 650 twins (with a few minor tweaks), what differentiates this bike is its new chassis with a USD fork and the level of quality and attention to detail. The recently upgraded Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650 (read our review here) have got some more features, but they still feel more basic than the Super Meteor. When it comes down to the quality of finish, right down to the black coating all over the chassis, the Super Meteor looks and feels like a premium, expensive bike. Effectively, that is where the extra money goes.

If you are interested in the cruiser look and feet-forward riding position, then you’ll find the Super Meteor worth your money. However, if you want a more conventional, neutral riding position that will be kinder on your back on bumpy roads, the Super Meteor’s upcoming sibling, the Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 will be worth waiting for.
