How has ADAS adapted to our Indian conditions? Will it be okay to drive with the ADAS feature on Indian roads? Or do manufacturers still need to tune it more?

Autocar India says: With an increasing number of cars as well as commercial vehicles starting to offer ADAS functions, the technology does help assist drivers in maintaining lane discipline, or a safe distance with the vehicle in front, whenever the road infrastructure is up to the mark.

However, given the unique challenges, such as stray animals, unmarked speed breakers as well as complete lack of lane markings on certain sections of Indian roads, it would still take time for car manufacturers and technology suppliers to fine-tune the technology, which is an incremental step towards fully autonomous vehicles.

While such challenges make it difficult for any vehicle manufacturer or technology supplier to adapt ADAS according to the Indian road and driving conditions, the industry is collectively putting consistent efforts to offer customised solutions for our market.

The onus, however, also lies on drivers to ensure the safety of fellow motorists on the road, by following best driving practices and obeying traffic laws at all times.
