The Thar petrol automatic will be more convenient but the diesel manual will be cheaper to run.

I have booked a diesel manual Thar RWD and I am awaiting delivery, however, I read that there’s a proposal to ban diesel cars in a few years. So is it a good idea to get a diesel car now and will it affect the resale value after a couple of years? Alternatively, should I consider the Thar petrol AT RWD? I am concerned about fuel efficiency as I live in Bangalore.

Autocar India says: There have been numerous news reports over the years suggesting bans on diesel cars, but we don’t think this will be made a law as diesels are getting cleaner and there is no logic in banning them. And even if they are banned, the ban will be applicable to new cars and not the old ones already on the road. Hence, we suggest you go ahead with your Thar diesel as the petrol AT is a fuel guzzler and will be more expensive to run.
