I currently ride a Suzuki Gixxer 155 with drum brakes. Despite the bike being so involving, the brakes lack bite and the wheels tend to lock upon hard braking. Could this feedback be improved by any means other than progressive braking? Also, can you suggest tyres – other than MRF Nylogrip Zappers – that can add more confidence during the above scenarios?

AAA If you don’t have ABS, the only way to avoid wheels locking under braking is to be more progressive with your inputs. However, assuming that it is the rear tyre which is locking frequently for you (locked front tyres usually end up only one way, in a crash), we suggest that you attempt a shift in your braking style. A sporty motorcycle like the Gixxer can easily handle most, if not all, braking inputs on the front brake. Being mindful of the road surface ahead, try to reduce your dependence on the rear and use the front brake more. You will be surprised by how much brake force the front can handle and you will find the bike slowing down in a much shorter distance. Start this gradually and build your confidence as you go along.

As for the tyres, the next step up from the Nylogrips is something like the MRF Revz radials, but we find that the latest Nylogrip Zappers perform quite well.
