We’ve got our hands on fresh spy pictures of the new Mercedes-Benz B-class being tested in Ahmednagar, Maharashtra, sent by our alert reader Vishwajeet Sawant.

The B-class will be the first offering from Mercedes to sit on the new front-wheel drive (MFA) platform. This platform is used in the new A-class, and will also see duty in the upcoming A-class based saloon and a compact SUV as well.

At 4.3 metres long, the B-class is part- large hatch and part-mini-MPV. The interior packaging is good, so there will be ample space inside for five passengers. The dashboard borrows elements from the SLS AMG and the CLS, adding to the luxurious cabin ambience.

A 1.8-litre diesel and a new 1.6-litre turbo-petrol will power the B-class and the transmissions could include a seven-speed dual-clutch ’box. As part of the new Mercedes-Nissan alliance, the new B-Class could also come with the 1.5-litre K9K engine which is seen in various Renault and Nissan models.

Mercedes will price the B-class at around Rs 18 lakh which will make it the most affordable Mercedes-Benz in India.
