Volkswagen Polo Cup India in 2010
Get ready for some smoking racing action as Volkswagen prepares to bring its world class entry level touring car racing series - the Polo Cup to India. VW has signed a Letter of Intent with JK Tyres and Industries Ltd to bring the series to India. The announcement was made by Prof. Dr. Jochem Heizmann, Member of the Board of Management of Volkswagen AG at the Hockenhemring in Germany at the finale of the DTM - German Touring Car Championship.

The Polo Cup aims to pinpoint and train promising Indian driving talent and technicians and raise the level of motorsports expertise and environment. The VW Polo Cup places a lot of onus on driving skill as the cars are virtually identical. In Europe the Polo Cup is run using 2 litre engines with 150bhp as an entry level series for young drivers.

VW is inviting racers and partners to get in touch with them at kurt.rippholz@volkswagen.co.in if interested in this ambitious and promising racing series.

Hopefully, somebody offers to set up a race track in the south or the west of the country; that would go a long way in improving the appeal of the championship, and fan the racing fever in India!
